I have extensive experience working with
My name is Louise Schjødt-Bavngaard, and I was born in 1985. I often meet people who ask me, “Which psychologist should I choose?”or “Which type of therapy is right for me?”
Of course, you can make a choice based on practical things — like “a psychologist near me”or “one with a short waiting time.” But I believe it’s just as important to find someone you feel a genuine connection with — someone who truly understands you.
It also matters that the way you and your psychologist work together makes sense to you, and that you actually start to feel better. That’s not always easy to know beforehand.
Here, I’d like to share a bit more about myself and why I believe in the therapeutic approaches I use.
My hope is that it gives you a better sense of what therapy with me might feel like.
I hold a master’s degree in psychology from Aarhus University and have completed further training in EMDR, ISTDP, and DBT. With nine years of experience in psychiatry within the Central Denmark Region, I bring a strong professional foundation to my practice. I find that these therapeutic approaches provide a solid framework for working with a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges.

I truly valued my years working in psychiatry.
It was a privilege to collaborate with skilled colleagues and to be part of such diverse and meaningful work.
It was also through my experience in psychiatry that I was introduced to the therapeutic methods I use today.
The first approach I learned was DBT.
This therapy focuses on developing concrete skills — for example, emotional regulation and setting healthy boundaries.
I found it deeply rewarding to teach these skills to my patients and to use them myself in everyday life.
An essential part of DBT is that therapists also practise and apply the same skills they teach.
There is also a strong emphasis on meeting clients at eye level — a value that feels deeply meaningful to me.
After a few years in psychiatry, I became interested in ISTDP.
This approach focuses on exploring the defences and anxiety reactions that can prevent us from living the life we truly want.
I’ve written that I truly enjoyed my work in psychiatry — so it may seem surprising that I chose to leave.
Over those nine years, it became increasingly clear to me that I wanted to focus on therapy, supervision, and teaching.
That’s where my strengths lie, where I’ve specialised, and what I genuinely want to dedicate my time to.
That’s why I decided to start my own private practice.
ISTDP also places great importance on what happens here and nowin the therapy room — in the relationship between client and therapist.
That immediacy makes it possible to work directly with the difficulties that arise in the moment — and that makes a lot of sense to me.
Most recently, I have devoted myself to learning EMDR. This approach focuses on processing past experiences and traumas that continue to affect how we feel and function today.
With EMDR, we activate the mind’s natural healing system to help process what we have been through — so that these experiences no longer control our present life.
As I see it, each of these three therapeutic approaches offers something unique.
DBT provides practical, concrete skills; ISTDP focuses on the here-and-now patterns of anxiety and defence that limit one’s life; and EMDR helps process and integrate painful past experiences.
Together, they form a broad and flexible foundation for working with many different psychological challenges.
My professional motivation is rooted in helping clients discover and embrace their authentic selves — free from shame and self-criticism.
In our sessions, you’ll experience an informal and genuine atmosphere — one where both laughter and tears are welcome, and where you’re invited to be exactly as you are.
If you’re ready for change, don’t hesitate to book an appointment directly or contact me with any questions.
