Intensive PTSD Program

Intensive PTSD Treatment Programme

Six days of focused trauma therapy — change that lasts a lifetime.

When the Past Keeps Holding You Back

Living with PTSD can feel like being trapped in the past.
Flashbacks, nightmares, and constant tension can make everyday life unpredictable and exhausting.
Small things — a sound, a smell, or a situation — can suddenly trigger intense reactions.
Many people find that their trauma still controls their lives, even years after the event.

The consequences can be overwhelming.
Anxiety and stress can make it difficult to function at work or in social situations.
Sleep problems and avoidance can lead to an increasingly limited and isolated life.
Untreated PTSD can also cause physical symptoms such as tension, headaches, and fatigue.

But there isa way forward.
PTSD can often be successfully treated — and with the right approach, you can regain a sense of calm, strength, and freedom in your life.

I offer an intensive trauma treatment programmethat targets the core of PTSD symptoms — helping to reduce them quickly and effectively.

Programme Overview

Here’s how the intensive PTSD treatment is structured:

Initial Consultation – approx. 3 hours

We begin with a thorough preparation session to make sure you’re fully ready to get the most out of the programme.

Together, we plan exactly which traumas or events we’ll work on during each treatment day.

We also create an exposure plan, so you know precisely what to focus on between sessions.

6 Treatment Days – over 2 weeks

Morning:Therapy using Prolonged Exposure (PE)(1.5 hours)

Midday:Physical activity and lunch on your own

Afternoon:Therapy using EMDR(1.5 hours)

Evening and non-treatment days:Self-guided exposure practice according to your plan

Follow-up Session

We meet again to ensure that the progress you’ve made continues — even after the programme has ended.

The focus is on maintaining results and identifying any areas that may still need attention.
If relevant, you’re welcome to bring a partner or friend to this session (to be arranged in advance).

I recommend scheduling this follow-up session at least one month after completing the programme.

Additional Support

Free Online Course: “8 Methods to Reduce Anxiety — Right Here and Now”

As part of the intensive programme, you’ll receive free access to my online course “8 Methods to Reduce Anxiety — Right Here and Now”(regular price: DKK 1,099).

The course provides effective tools for managing anxiety in everyday life, helping you feel more calm, safe, and in control — before, during, and after treatment.

You’ll learn concrete methods you can apply whenever anxiety arises, supporting you in creating more balance and ease in daily life.
The course is self-paced and serves as an additional layer of support throughout your process.

Psychoeducation

As part of the programme, you’ll also gain access to five short psychoeducational videos that provide essential knowledge about PTSD and trauma responses. These videos help you understand what happens in the body and mind and offer practical strategies for coping with challenges.

You’ll learn about:

PTSD and Trauma Responses– What happens in the brain, and why do you react the way you do?

Setting Healthy Boundaries– How to take care of yourself and your needs.

Support for Sleep Problems– Tools for improving sleep quality.

Dissociation– Why you may feel detached from yourself or your surroundings.

Shame and Guilt– Why they are so common in PTSD, and how to work through them.

These videos can be watched at your own pace and revisited whenever you need them.
They provide extra support — both during and after treatment.

Specialised PTSD Treatment Based on Experience and Research

I am a licensed psychologist and specialist in psychotherapy for adults, with nine years of experience in psychiatry in Aarhus and Silkeborg.

During my time in public mental health care, I was part of the intensive PTSD treatment projectat The Psychiatry House in Silkeborg— a programme that showed exceptionally positive results.

In my private practice, I offer the same effective approach, combining EMDRand Prolonged Exposure (PE).
The treatment is structured with one form of therapy in the morning and another in the afternoon, providing an intensive and focused process.
You can read more about the programme here.

This method has proven to be highly effective:
At The Psychiatry House, 9 out of 12 patients showed significant improvement, no longer meeting the criteria for PTSD after just six days of treatment.

I place great emphasis on creating a safe and supportive environment, where we work together towards your recovery in a focused and compassionate way.

Read the article about the treatment at The Psychiatry House and watch a video with one of the patients here.

Read About Mette’s Experience (Age 51)

“Honestly, I’ve felt amazing since the programme.
It’s been put to the test — Christmas, New Year’s, and my child’s birthday — and I enjoyed it all for the first time in five years.
Even the sound of fireworks wasn’t a problem this year.”

Mette’s Life Before Treatment

Nightmares, flashbacks, and anxiety-triggering situations were part of daily life.
Everything felt overwhelming — even simple tasks like making lunchboxes or tidying up.
Her body was in constant alert mode, as if she’d just received a shock.
Social interactions were difficult, and she had lost the energy to care for herself or maintain friendships.

“It’s really tough — you get completely exhausted.

It’s important that the people around you understand that you won’t have much energy during the two weeks of treatment — or for a few days afterwards.”

From Skepticism to Surprise at the Results

“I was skeptical at first. I thought, ‘Maybe it’ll work, maybe it won’t — but if it does, it’ll be worth it.’
I’m honestly shocked at how effective it was.
Today, over a month later, I feel 100% recovered.”

Mette’s Life After Treatment

  • No nightmares. No flashbacks. No anxiety triggers.
  • Renewed joy in everyday life and energy to do things that once felt impossible.

  • “My partner and son say they recognise me again — like they’ve got me back.”

  • A sense of calm in her body:
“I no longer jump at every sound. My son can sneak up on me now — and I just find it funny and cosy.”

  • A new sense of motivation:
“I’ve started reconnecting with friends, exercising, and taking care of myself.”

  • Hope for the future:
“Now I believe I can also start tapering off my antidepressant medication.”

FAQ About the Intensive PTSD Treatment

How do I know if intensive PTSD treatment is right for me?

If you experience PTSD symptoms that affect your daily life — such as flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, or avoidance — this intensive treatment may be a good fit for you. The programme is especially suitable if you want a more focused and rapid treatment process compared to traditional weekly therapy. We always begin with a brief phone call to explore whether this approach is relevant for you and to answer any initial questions you may have.

Is the treatment difficult?

Yes — the treatment is intensive and emotionally demanding. Many people experience significant fatigue during the programme and in the days that follow. This is why it’s important to plan the treatment weeks so you have enough time to rest and recover. The benefit, however, is that this focused and time-limited approach can lead to marked and lasting improvements.

Can I continue working during the treatment?

No. It is recommended that you take time off during the two treatment weeks, as the programme is physically and emotionally demanding. In addition, the treatment sessions take place during regular daytime hours. Many people also need a few extra days afterwards to rest and recover.

What if I can’t participate in the full programme?

I also offer adapted and individualised treatment options. Together, we can assess what makes the most sense for your situation. Feel free to contact me for an introductory, no -obligation conversation about your options.

Does my insurance cover the treatment?

Some health insurance plans do cover PTSD treatment, but it depends on your specific policy. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to learn more about your coverage options.

How do I get started?

The first step is a brief, no-obligation phone call to determine whether the intensive programme is the right option for you. If we decide to proceed, we schedule the initial consultation, where we create a detailed plan for your treatment process.
